Evaporation increases the salinity of seawater because when seawater evaporates, the salts are left behind, thus increasing their concentration. ... When ice melts, the input of freshwater dilutes the salt content and reduces the salinity.In seas where the rate of evaporation is high than the supply of fresh water, salinity is high. If the supply of freshwater exceeds the rate of evaporation, salinity is low. Inspite of high temperature in the equatorial areas salinity is low because of heavy rainfall.
