Given :
Mass of copper sulphate = 100g
To Find :
How much copper can be obtained from the given amount of copper sulphate.
Solution :
■ First of all we need to find molar mass of copper sulphate.
In order to find molar mass, we need to know atomic mass of each element.
❇ Atomic mass of Cu : 63.5 g/mol
❇ Atomic mass of S : 32 g/mol
❇ Atomic mass of O : 16 g/mol
We know that the mass of one mole of a
substance in grams is called molar mass, which is numerically equal to atomic/molecular/formula mass expressed in u
⧪ Molar mass of CuSO₄ :
- Cu + S + 4(O)
- 63.5 + 32 + 4(16)
- 95.5 + 64
- 159.5 g/mol
So we can say that,
159.5g of CuSO₄ contains 63.5g of Cu
∴ 100g of CuSO₄ will have
- 100 × 63.5/159.5
- 6350/159.5
- 39.819 g of Cu
∴ (1) is the correct answer!
