It is true, Kalam's father did not have any formal education yet he was progressive and secular in his outlook.
He was progressive in his outlook as he provided each and every basic facility to his children. He allowed them to attend school where modern subjects such as science, math, English, etc. He also allowed his children to interact freely with the children of other religions.
He was secular also. During the annual Shri Sita Rama Kalyanam ceremony, it was Dr. Kalam’s father who used to arrange boats with a special platform for carrying idols of the Lord from the temple to the marriage site.
