Hey there!
This question is some what related to complex numbers.
There exists some number which don't have a definite value either reccuring non terminating or non terminating non recurring value.
Simply, We can say we don't know the value of some numbers .
1² = 1
(-1)² = 1
So, Square of any number either positive or negative is positive.
Therefore, We don't know the numbers whose square results in a number . So We imagine that for a number " i " it's square equals -1 ( it's taken as -1 as every number can be written in multiples of -1 or 1 , here -1 because it's non positive)
So, i² = -1
Which again gives us i = √-1
Coming back to your question,
√-4 = √( 4 × -1 ) = √4 * √-1 = 2(i) = 2i .
Therefore, √-4 = 2i .
Hope you are helped :)
