Given : The mass of 25 cm of a certain substance is 87.2 g

To find : density

Solution:

mass = 87.2  gm

Volume  =  25 cm³

Density  = mass/volume

=>  Density = 87.2/25   g/cm³

=> Density = 87.2 * 4 / (25 * 4)

=> Density =   348.8 /100

=> Density =   3.488

Density =   3.5 g/cm³

option a is correct

The density is 3.5 g/cc

Therefore, option (a) is correct.

Explanation:

Given:

Mass m = 87.2 g

No. of significant figures = 3

Volume V = 25 cm³

No. of significant figures = 2

Density of the substance

Density = Mass/Volume

\implies \text{Density }=\frac{87.2}{25} g/cc

\implies  \text{Density }=3.488 g/cc

The number of significant figures in density should be the lesser of the number of significant figures in mass and volume

Thus, the number of significant figures in density should be 2

Therefore, density = 3.5 g/cc
