To find :

value of x and y

equations :

  • x+y = 7 _____ eq (i)
  • x-y = -1 _____ eq (ii)

Solution:

subtracting eq(ii] from eq(i) :

x+y -(x-y) = 7-(-1)

=> x+y-x+y = 8

=> 2y = 8

=> y = 8÷2

=> y = 4

putting value of y in eq(ii)

x-y = -1

=> x-4= -1

=> x = 3

so, x = 3

y = 4

Verify :

putting value of x and y in eq(i]

x+y = 7

=> 3+4 = 7

hence , verified
