Answer:

let the first no be x

second no= x-2

third no= 4x+x-2+x=16

4x+x+x=16+2

4x+x+x=18

6x=18

x=18÷6

x=3

second no.=x-2

= 3-2

=1

third no.= 4x

= 4×3

=12

The three numbers are 3 , 1 , 12.

  • Let the three numbers be x,y and z.
  • Sum of numbers is 16.

x+y+z = 16    ......(Equation 1)

  • Second number is 2 less than first number.

y = x- 2     .......(Equation 2)

  • Third number is 4 times the first number.

z = 4x       ......(Equation 3)

  • Substituting the value of y and z in equation 1 from equation 2 and 3

x + (x-2) +4x =16

6x = 18

x = 3

  • Substituting the value of x in equation 2 and 3 to find y and z respectively.
  • y = 3 -2 = 1
  • z = 4x = 4(3) = 12
