4. There is a rectangular field of length 300 m and breadth 240 m. Three roads, each of width 3.2 m pass through
the field such that two roads are parallel to the breadth and third road is parallel to the length. Find the total area
of three roads and the cost of gravelling the roads at the rate of 2.25 per m².

total area of roads is 2475.52 sq.meter and total cost is  Rs.5569.92

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

A rectangular field with two roads are parallel to the breadth and third road is parallel to the length.

Length (l) = 300 m

width (b)= 3.2 m

Two roads that are parallel to breadth will have dimensions:

length l= 240 m ; width (b)= 3.2 m

cost of gravelling = 2.25 per m .

To find:

total area  of three roads and the cost of gravelling the roads at the rate of 2.25 per m²

Solution:

  • Area rectangular field  = l x b = 300 x 3.2 = 960 sq.meter

  • Area of Two roads that are parallel to breadth

            =240 x 3.2 + 240 x 3.2 = 1536 sq.meter

  • area which is common = 3.2 x 3.2 + 3.2 X 3.2 = 20.48 sq.meter

  • total area of roads = 960 + 1536 - 20.48

                Area = 2475.52 sq.meter

Total cost = total area of roads x cost of gravelling

total cost = 2475.52 x 2.25 = Rs.5569.92

hence, total area of roads is 2475.52 sq.meter and total cost is  Rs.5569.92
