Answer:

When the new century began 17 years ago, there was a major push to get girls around the world into education.

There have been some notable successes. Between 2000 and 2015, the gender gap in literacy narrowed dramatically and the number of girls going to primary school rose significantly.

But it hasn't been enough. In more than half of all countries, there's still a large gender gap when it comes to attendance at lower secondary school.

"Despite universal recognition of the right to education for everyone, girls are still more likely than boys never to attend school," says a stark line from a United Nations report on girls' education.

Following are the reasons behind denying these rights to women:

Right to education

  • Poverty: there is poverty in rural areas and as there is clear gender discrimination in India the male child is sent to school and not the female child. As the parents feel it would be a waste as their daughter would leave their house after marriage.
  • Child marriage: although the rate of child marriage has declined but female still get married in a young age which almost stops the scope of education for them.
  • Inclination towards domestic chores: the people feel that it would be better if females instead of getting education do the domestic chores.

Right to Property:

  • Marriage: it is regarded as the most important institution in society. And after marriage a female has to leave her father’s house. So they are denied any property rights.
  • Unequal status between men and women: a wrong conception that men are superior to women in a society like India. This gave more status to men. Having land is also a kind of status that women are denied.
