4(x-3)+12=15-5(x+6)

One solution was found :

x = -5/3 = -1.667

Rearrange:

Rearrange the equation by subtracting what is to the right of the equal sign from both sides of the equation :

4*(x-3)+12-(15-5*(x+6))=0

Step by step solution :

Step 1 :

Equation at the end of step 1 :

((4•(x-3))+12)-(15-5•(x+6)) = 0

Step 2 :

Equation at the end of step 2 :

(4 • (x - 3) + 12) - (-5x - 15) = 0

Step 3 :

Step 4 :

Pulling out like terms :

4.1 Pull out like factors :

9x + 15 = 3 • (3x + 5)

Equation at the end of step 4 :

3 • (3x + 5) = 0

Step 5 :

Equations which are never true :

5.1 Solve : 3 = 0

This equation has no solution.

A a non-zero constant never equals zero.

Solving a Single Variable Equation :

5.2 Solve : 3x+5 = 0

Subtract 5 from both sides of the equation :

3x = -5

Divide both sides of the equation by 3:

x = -5/3 = -1.667

One solution was found :

x = -5/3 = -1.667

4(x - 3) + 12 = 15 - 5(x + 6)

4x - 12 + 12 = 15 - 5x - 30

4x + 5x = 15 - 30 + 12 - 12

9x = -15

x = -15/9
