Answer : x = 1/2 , y = 2

Step by step explanation :

Given equations :

4x + 7y / xy = 16 .. (1)

10x + 3y / xy = 11 .. (2)

Eq. ( 1 ) : 4x + 7y / xy = 16

.°. 4x / xy + 7y / xy =16

» 4/y + 7/x =16

Now,

Let 1/y = a and 1/x = b

Thus,

4a + 7b =16... ( I )

Eq. (2) : 10x/xy+3y/xy=11

.°. 10/y+3/x=11

» As 1/y = a and 1/x = b,

Thus,

10a+3b=11.. ( II )

Now,

Multiplying eq. (I) by 10

» 40a + 70b =160

Multiplying eq. (II) by 4

» 40a+12b=44

Subtracting eq II) from I),

58b = 116

b=116/58

b = 2

Also ,

From eq (I),

4a+7b=16

4a+14=16

a = 1/2

b = 2

Substituting these values ,

b = 1/x

1/2=x

Also,

1/y=a

y = 2

Answer :

x =1/2 & y = 2
