It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is a fine example of Mughal Architecture. In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was declared the seventh wonder of the world. It took 16 long years to build this beautiful monument. It is made up of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones.
