The ratio of silver and gold in the new alloy is 11 : 24.

Given:

quantity of alloy M = 40 kg

quantity of alloy N = 100 kg

the ratio of silver and gold in alloy M = 3 : 2

the ratio of silver and gold in alloy N = 1 : 4

To Find:

the ratio of silver and gold in the new alloy

Solution:

weight of the new alloy will be = 40 + 100 = 140 kg

weight of gold in alloy M = 2/5 × 40 = 16 kg

weight of gold in alloy N = 4/5 × 100 = 80 kg

⇒ weight of gold in the new allow = 16 + 80 = 96 kg

therefore, the weight of silver in the new alloy = 140 - 96 = 44 kg

So, the ratio of silver and gold in the new alloy = 44 : 96

= 11 : 24

Thus, the ratio of silver and gold in the new alloy is 11 : 24.
