Let number of passengers in the beginning=x

40% of the passengers got down at station suppose P.

Passenger left in the train= x-\frac{40\times x}{100}=\frac{60\times x}{100}=\frac{6\times x}{10}

Now, 75% of the remaining got down at station  suppose Q

Number of passengers left in train when train leaves the station Q

     =  \frac{6\times x}{10} -\frac{6\times x}{10}\times\frac{75}{100}=\frac{6x}{40}

Now , 12 are taken to last station.

\frac{6x}{40}=12

→6 x= 40×12

x = 480÷6

x=80

So, there were 80 passengers  in the train when train started.
