Answer:

Length of the rod that can measure all dimensions need to be a factor of all three dimensions.. like in this case 1cm, 2cm etc.

However, for ease we need the highest value, called Highest Common Factor (HCF) of these numbers..

Now, there are a lot of methods to find HCF.. (consult ur book for the same)

Here, numbers can be taken as 720cm, 640cm, 596cm..

Solution by Factorization:

The factors of 596 are: 1, 2, 4, 149, 298, 596

The factors of 640 are: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16, 20, 32, 40, 64, 80, 128, 160, 320, 640

The factors of 720 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 24, 30, 36, 40, 45, 48, 60, 72, 80, 90, 120, 144, 180, 240, 360, 720

As we can see,The highest common factor is 4.

So, we need a rod of 4cm for the purpose.
