As far as I know, synapse is the small space between the nerve ending of one neuron and the nerve head of another neuron. The information is transferred from one neuron to another in the synapse. This is done by releasing of neurotransmitters which take the information from the head to the other neuron's tail.

Synapse:

The synapse can be defined as the junction between the "two nerve cells". It is composed of a minute gap across that impulses pass by the "diffusion of a neurotransmitter".

Neurotransmitters are released from the "axon terminal of a neuron" which travel through the "synapse" and reach to the "dendrites of the successive neuron". The transfer of chemical messengers across the synapse carries the message in the form of an electrical impulse.
