C2H4O . .............. 88 g of CO2 = 88 / 44 = 2 moles of CO2 that has 2 moles of C ........and 36 grams of H2O = 36 / 18 = 2 moles of H2O that has 4 moles of H ..........as mass of sample is 44 grams it must have 2 moles or 2 x12 =24 g of C , 4 moles or 4 x 1 = 4 grams of H and rest 16 grams must be 1 mole of O ......hence molecular formula of compound is C2H4O .
