answer : option (3) 60N

Let T is tension in string, f is frictional force acting between block and rough surface.

f = μN , where N is normal reaction between block and surface.

= 0.8 × mg = 0.8 × 5kg × 10m/s²

= 40N

for block of mass 5 kg,

T - f = ma

⇒T - 40 = 5a .......(1)

for block of mass 10kg,

Mg - T = Ma

⇒10kg × 10m/s² - T = 10a

⇒100 - T = 10a ........(2)

from equations (1) and (2) we get,

100 - 40 = 5a + 10a

⇒60 = 15a

⇒a = 4 m/s²

from equation (1),

T = 40 + 4 × 5 = 60N
