The velocity of the centre of mass of system is 6 m/s.

Explanation:

From newton's third law of motion, there is always equal and opposite reaction to any action.

We know that, moment of a body =  m x v

where, m is the mass of the body and v is the velocity of it.

So, The moment of body 1 = moment of body 2.

                                 ⇒  m x v = m x v

                                 ⇒   4 kg x 6 m/s = 2 kg x y

where, y is the velocity of the stationary mass after collision.

                                               ⇒  y = 12 m/s
