4x - 0.5y = 12.5

MULTIPLY BOTH SIDES BY 3 WE HAVE

12x - 1.5y = 37.5 ... Equation ( i )

3x + 0.8y = 8.2

MULTIPLY BOTH SIDES BY 4 WE HAVE

12x + 3.2y = 32.8 ... Equation ( ii )

Now Subtract Equation ii from i we have

( 12x - 12x ) + ( -1.5y - 3.2y ) = ( 12.5 - 32.8)

-4.7y = -20.3

y = 20.3/4.7

y = 4.31 ( appx )

Now, put value of y in equation i we get

12x - 1.5 ( 4.31 ) = 37.5

x = 3.66 ( appx )
