Solution:

4x  + 3 = 2x - 5

EQUALS,

4x - 2x =  - 5 - 3

(This step tells that we have changed 2x into the Left hand side and +3 into the Left Hand Side. And due to changing the places, they have changed their values. +3 is changed into -3 and +2x is changed into -2x)

EQUALS,

2x =  - 8

(Due to Subtraction of 4x and 2x, we have got 2x. And in addition of -5 and -3 we have got -8)

EQUALS,

x =  - 8 \div 2

(In this above step, we have changed the space of 2 into the Right Hand Side. It's work is now to divide it with -8)

EQUALS,

x =  - 4

(In this above step, we have divided -8 with 2 and getting the result -4)

Therefore, the value of x is -4.

Answer:

x = -4

Step-by-step explanation:

First Method: By transposing

Given,

4x + 3 = 2x - 5

Step 1: Transpose 2x to LHS and 3 to RHS

4x - 2x = -5 - 3 = -8

Step 2; Subtract 2x from 4x

2x = -8

Step 3: Transpose 2 to RHS

x = -8/2

x = -4

Second Method: By adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing LHS and RHS by same numbers.

Given,

4x + 3 = 2x - 5

Step 1: Subtract 2x from both sides

4x - 2x + 3 = 2x - 2x - 5

or 2x + 3 = -5

Step 2: Subtract 3 from both sides

2x + 3 - 3 = -5 - 3

or 2x = -8

Step 3 : Dividing both sides by 2

x = -8/2

x = -4
