I think you missed the + sign

So i'm going to factor  4x^4+11x^2+9

 4x^4+11x^2+9

 =4x^4+12x^2-x^2+9

 =4x^4+12x^2+9-x^2

 =(2x^2+3)^2-x^2  (using formula a^2-b^2=(a+b)(a-b)

 =(2x^2+3-x)(2x^2+3+x)

Hence final answer is  (2x^2+3-x)(2x^2+3+x) .
