condition for getting parallel lines is

a1/a2=b1/b2 is not equal to c1/c2

so,

4/4=p/4

1=p/4

p=4

and 8/2=4 is not equal to a1/a2

therefore,

p=4

Given that the two lines 4x +py +8 = 0 and 4x +4y+ 2=0 are parallel to each other. The value of slopes of both the lines will be equal .

We will compare the value of the slopes to find the value of p.

For the line 4x +py +8=0

slope = m1 = -4/p

For the line 4x +4y+ 2=0

slope = m2 = -1
