a = 5
d = 1 - 5 = -4

Solution :

Given A.P is 5 , 1 , -3 , -7 , ....,

first term = a = a1 = 5 ,

second term = a2 = 1 ,

Common difference ( d ) = a2 - a1 = a3-a2

d = 1 - 5

d = -4

Therefore ,

first term = a = 5 ,

common difference = d = -4
