To find the number of pairs left out, we should divide 1178 by 65

On dividing 1178 by 17,we get 1105 and 73 as remainder.

So number of pairs packed = 1105

number of pairs left out = 73

number of boxes = 1105/65 = 17 boxes

Number of boxes can be packed = 18

The number of pair of socks which are left = 8

Given :

1178 pairs of socks have to be packed into boxes

65 pairs of socks can be packed into one box

To find :

Find the number of boxes that were packed and the number of pairs of socks left out?

Solution :

Given number of pairs of socks = 1178

Number of pair of socks in one box = 65

Number of boxes that can be packed = number of pair of socks/65

= 1178/65 = 18.12

Here we can't say 18.12 boxes

So number of boxes can be packed = 18

Number of pair of socks in 18 boxes = 18 × 65 = 1170

Therefore,

The number of pair of socks that are packed = 1170

The number of pair of socks which are left = 1178 - 1170 = 8

The number of pair of socks which are left = 8

Number of boxes can be packed = 18

The number of pair of socks which are left = 8
