By splitting the middle term

 {2x}^{2}  - 3x - 5 = 0

 =  {2x}^{2}  + 2x  - 5x - 5 = 0

 = 2x(x + 1) - 5(x + 1) = 0

 = ( x + 1)(2x - 5) = 0

Finding Roots :-

First Root

x + 1 = 0

x =  - 1

Second Root :-

2x - 5 = 0

2x = 5

x =  \frac{5}{2}

Therefore the two roots are -1 and 5/2
