Solution :-

As per the given data ,

Initially ,

  • Height of the ball from the ground = 10 m
  • Acceleration due to gravity = 10 m/s²

Initial potential energy of the glass ball is given by ,

\longrightarrow\mathtt{PE_i = mgh }

\longrightarrow\mathtt{PE_i = 10mg }

  • Energy loss due to impact = 20 %
  • Energy left = 100 -20 = 80%

Potential energy of the ball remaining  after impact ,

\longrightarrow\mathtt{PE_f = 10mg \times \dfrac{80}{100}  }

\longrightarrow\mathtt{PE_f = 8 mg   }

\longrightarrow\mathtt{mgh_f = 8 mg   }

\longrightarrow\boxed{\mathtt{h_f = 8m   }}

The ball will go up to 8 m
