Answer:

Correct Option: B

Two lots of whisky having equal quantities are mixed

Let the price of mixture of whisky be Rs. y per litre.

According to question ,

∴ 18 – y/y-22= 1

∴ y = Rs. 20 a litre .

Now this mixture is mixed with water and worth Rs. 16 a litre

Hence, the proportion of water to mixture =

20 – 16/16-0= 1 : 4.

Quantity of water =

50/1+4× 1 = 10 litre.

Step-by-step explanation:

Hope this helps you.

Given:-

  • A man has whisky worth Rs 22 a litre and another lot  worth Rs 18 a litre.
  • Equal quantities of these are mixed  with water to obtain a mixture of 50 litres worth Rs 16 a litre.

To find:-

  • How much water the mixture contains.

Solution:-

Let,

The price of mixture of whisky = Rs.x per litre.

As, whisky is worth Rs 22 a litre and another lot  worth Rs 18 a litre,

⇒18-x/ x-22  = 1

⇒18-x = x-22

⇒x - 22 + x - 18 = 0

⇒2x = 40

⇒x = 40/2

⇒x = Rs. 20

Given that Equal quantities of these are mixed  with water to obtain a mixture of 50 litres worth Rs 16 a  litre.

Hence,

The proportion of water to mixture:-

⇒20 - 16/16-0

⇒4/16

⇒1 : 4

Now,

We have:

  • Total mixture=50 litres
  • Proportion = 1:4
  • Worth = 16 per litre

Quantity of water:-

⇒50/(1+4)× 1

10 litres

Hence,Option(B) is correct.

The mixture contains 10litres of water.
