Total money received by Dan =  52 dollars

Obviously, the cost of all those 3 things must be different.

Therefore,

Let the cost of baseball glove = x dollars

The cost of baseball                 = y dollars and

The cost of bat                          = z dollars

Money left over with him          = 37 dollars

His total expenditure = (x+y+z) dollars

Algebraic expression can be given as either of the following conditions:

1.  52- (x+y+z) = 37    ( in dollars )   or

2. 37+(x+y+z) =52      ( in dollars)
