5. Explain how the forests
(a) check soil erosion,
(b) maintain oxygen-carbon dioxide cycle, and
(c) control climatic conditions.
Answers
Answer:
a) Forests are rich in vegetation. Herbs, shrubs and trees in the forests hold the top most layer firmly by their roots. This does not allow natural forces like wind and water to carry away the top most fertile layer of the soil easily. Hence, forests prevent soil erosion
b) The green plants and trees present in the forest utilize carbon dioxide from the environment during the process of photosynthesis and release oxygen in the atmosphere. This oxygen is inhaled by the animals during respiration. Animals release carbon-dioxide during respiration which is absorbed by plants.
c) Forests influence climate change largely by affecting the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. When forests grow, carbon is removed from the atmosphere and absorbed in wood, leaves and soil. ... This carbon remains stored in the forest ecosystem, but can be released into the atmosphere when forests are burned
