How did people react to rowlatt act?​

On 1919, the British passed the Rowlatt act which curbed the basic fundamental rights of human beings like the freedom of speech and expression and strengthened police powers. Mahatma Gandhi, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and others felt that the British could not restrict people’s basic rights. They called the act to be devilish and tyrannical. Gandhiji asked the Indian people to observe 6th April 1919 as a day of nonviolent opposition to the act, as a day of ‘humiliation and prayer’ and hartal.
