I’m taking the example of Round Yellow and Wrinkled Green Dihybrid Cross.

Here in the F2 generation the PUNNET SQUARE CROSSING would reveal that the parental Round Yellow variety would be 9.

Two new varieties - ROUND GREEN and WRINKLED YELLOW would also form. Each would occur 3 times.

The parental Wrinkled Green would be 1.

Hence on the whole there are only 4 PHENOTYPES - ROUND YELLOW, ROUND GREEN, WRINKLED YELLOW, WRINKLED GREEN.

Hence the phenotypic ratio - 9:3:3:1
