5. Explain the following:
(a) Lysosomes are suicide bags of the cell.
(b) Cell is known as structural and functional unit of life.
(c) Division of labour is seen in cell organelles.
(e) Mitochondria are semi-autonomous bodies.
Answers
a. Lysosomes consists of hydrologic enzymes. Hence if there is any destruction in the cell then it releases enzymes which digest the whole cell. It is similar to commit suicide. That's why they are called suicidal bags of the cell.
b. all living organisms are made up of cells. it is the smallest unit of the body. that is why they are called as a structural unit of life. moreover, a basic level of function of the body starts from a single cell. they form tissues, organs etc. that is why they are called a functional unit of life.
c. to reduce the individual workload of the cell, division of labour a seen in cell organelles.
d. mitochondria have their own DNA and RNA. they can live on their own by producing energy for themselves. that's why they are considered as semi-autonomous organelles .
