Fill in the blank with correct preposition:

  • He is poor but honest.

➛ A preposition is a word which is placed before a noun or pronoun to show it's relation with noun or pronoun or with other part of the sentence.

But:

  • It is used to contrast with the thing which is already mentioned. Here, it is contrasting that the person is poor yet he is honest.

Change the following into indirect speech:

  • He said that Aruna seemed worried.

  • She ordered Rekha to wash the dishes.

  • I forbade them to talk loudly.

  • I asked him what he was doing.

  • I asked her if she could drive.

Golden Rules:

  • By changing a sentence from direct speech to indirect: The tense of the verb in simple present is changed into simple past and simple past is changed into past perfect.

  • In reporting a question in the indirect speech: The introductory verb is changed to asked, inquired, etc according to the question.

  • In reporting a command or request the introductory verb is changed into request, beg, advise, command, etc.

  • Change first and second person in direct speech to third person in indirect.
