find out how many pieces of ribbon with a length of 7/8 meters each can be cut from a roll of ribbon that has a length of 56 meters, simply divide 56 by 7/8 as follows:

56 meters ÷ 7/8 meters/piece = 56 meters x (8/7) piece/meters

= (56/1) x (8/7) pieces

Note: The "meters" units cancelled each other out, leaving only "pieces".

= (56 x 8)/(1 x 7) pieces

= 448/7 pieces

= 64 pieces of 7/8 meters each in length can be cut from the 56 meter roll.

Short pieces to be cut are of length = 7/8 m

Number of short pieces that may be cut from the roll = 56/(7/8) = 56*8/7 = 64.
