Given :-

  • 6 oil tankers can be filled by a pipe in 4½ hours.

To Find :-

  • How long does the pipe take to fill 4 such oil tankers?

Used Formula :-

 \bf \red{⟼ \: Product  \: of \:  Means \:  =  \: Product \:  of  \: extremes}

Solution :-

Given :

6 oil tankers can be filled by a pipe in 4½ hrs.

Convert hrs into mins :

1hr = 60mins

4½hrs = ?

By Cross Multiplication :

\displaystyle \bf \implies\:   \frac{4\times 60}{1}  =   \: \frac{240}{1}  =240mins

\displaystyle \bf \implies\:   240mins \:  + 30mins =  \red{270mins}

According to the question :

6 oil tankers can be filled by a pipe in 270mins.

So,

The pipe take to fill 4 such oil tankers are :

⇢ \:  \bf6 \: oil \: tankers \:  =   \: 270mins \\ \bf ⇢ \: 4 \: oil \: tankers \:  = \:  \:  \:  ? \:

We know that,

 \bf \red{⟼ \: Product  \: of \:  Means \:  =  \: Product \:  of  \: extremes}

Let,

⇝ \:  \:  \bf6 \: oil \: tankers \:   : \: 270mins  \:  :  \: :  \:  4 \: oil \: tankers \:   :  \:  \:  \:  xmins \:  \:

⟹ \:  \:  \sf6 \:   : \: 270  \:  :  \: :  \:  4  \:   :  \:  \:  \:  ? \:  \:

⟹ \:  \:  \sf6  \: \times  \:  x  = \: 270  \times 4

⟹ \:  \:  \sf6  \: \times  \:  x  = \:1080

 \displaystyle⟹ \:  \:  \sf \:  x  =  \:   \cancel\frac{1080}{6}

\displaystyle⟹ \:  \:  \sf \:  x  =   \:  \frac{180}{1}

\displaystyle \red{⟹ \:  \:  \bf \:  x  =  180}

We got,

180mins

We can also write it as 3hrs .

Hence,

4 oil tankers can be filled by a pipe in 3 hours.
