Answer:
India have achieved great feats in Hockey including six consecutive hockey gold medals at Olympics between 1928 and 1956 and many more.
We all have learned in our primary classes that Hockey is the National Game of India.
On August 2, 2012 the ministry of sports and youth affair said that country does not have a national game as no game has been notified as such.
The ministry has sports disciplines put into different categories. Hockey is one of the priority disciplines but it is not a national game.
Cricket is the most popular and followed sports in India. But its only played in a handfull of countries. Unlike Hockey which is more popular worldwide. Most Indians consider Hockey as their National Game. It represented India in a great deal after the Independence. It was in the 1990's our Hockey National Team started deteriorating, no more considered the undisputed superpower.
Also Indian Cricket Team doesn't really represent India as a Nation. It represents BCCI, which is an autonomous board unlike other sports including Hockey which comes under Ministry of Sports.
So technically Cricket cannot become National Game of India.
And as an Indian, I don't want to see Hockey to be replaced by any other sport.
