metre and the length 3 metres, the area will be 19 sq metres more than the present

The new length is (x+3) m and the new width is (x+1) m. Then the new area will be, (x+3)(x+1) m².

By the given question,

or, 4x+3=19

or, 4x=19-3

or, 4x=16

or, x=4 m
