Samudragupta: Samudragupta is considered to be the greatest king of the Gupta Empire. Some historians also equate him with Ashoka the Great. Historians have come to know about him through the coins and inscriptions. One inscription on an Ashokan pillar in Allahabad gives a detailed account about Samudragupta. It was a prashasti; written in the form of a long poem by Harisena. Harisena was a court poet of Samudragupta; around 1700 years ago.
