the question is incomplete.
the question should be - 5ml acetic acid is added to 20ml of distilled water. mixture is well stirred in beaker. when soap is added to it will it produce lather?give reason.

The acid dissolves and partially dissociates to form C H 3 C O O − and ions. No chemical reactions occur. When distilled water is added to ethanoic acid a Homogeneous solution will be obtained and that solution will be colourless and transparent this shows that ethanoic acid or acetic acid in soluble in water.
