5. On measuring the thickness of a nail using a screw gauge, Neel and Ronik recorded different
measurements. Neel recorded the thickness of the nail as 1.5605 mm while Ronik recorded it as
1.5645 mm.
If the exact thickness of the nail was 1.5625 mm, then what is the percentage error recorded by each
of them? Round off your answer to the nearest hundredths. Also, state whose measurement was
more accurate.

Given : On measuring the thickness of a nail using a screw gauge,

Neel and Ronik recorded different  measurements. Neel recorded the thickness of the nail as 1.5605 mm while Ronik recorded it as  1.5645 mm.

exact thickness of the nail was 1.5625 mm,

To Find : what is the percentage error recorded by each  of them?

Round off your answer to the nearest hundredths.

whose measurement was  more accurate.

Solution:

exact thickness of the nail was 1.5625 mm

Neel recorded the thickness of the nail as 1.5605 mm

Error = 1.5605 - 1.5625  =  -0.0020

Error %  =  (0.0020/1.5625) * 100 = -0.128 %

Rounding off to  nearest hundredths = -0.13 %

Ronik recorded the thickness of the nail as 1.5645 mm

Error = 1.5645 - 1.5625  =   0.0020

Error %  =  (0.0020/1.5625) * 100 =  0.128 %

Rounding off to  nearest hundredths =  0.13 %

Both measurement had same error - Equal Accurate
