Solution :-

⇒ x² - 7x + 12 = 0

By splitting middle term

⇒ x² - 4x - 3x + 12 = 0

⇒ x ( x - 4 ) - 3 ( x - 4 ) = 0

⇒ ( x - 3 ) ( x - 4 ) = 0

When x - 3 = 0

⇒ x = 3

When x - 4 = 0

⇒ x = 4

Sum of zeroes = 3 + 4 = 7

Other Method :-

Suppose α and β are the zeroes of the given polynomial , Now

★ α + β = - b / a

Here

a = 1 b = - 7

⇒ α + β = - ( - 7 ) / 1

⇒ α + β = 7 / 1

α + β = 7

We can find the answer by factoring the equation, then setting them up equal to zero.

x² - 7x + 12 = 0

By middle term splitting

= x² - 4x - 3x + 12 = 0

= x ( x - 4 ) - 3 ( x - 4 ) = 0

= (x - 3)(x - 4) = 0

x - 3 = 0 x - 4 = 0

x = 3 x = 4

So you have two real solutions for the equation x² - 7x + 12 = 0 i.e. x = 3 , 4
