Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of the two brothers be 3x years and 4x years.

5 years ago, the age of the two brothers were (3x - 5) years and (4x -5) years.

According to the problem,

(3x - 5):(4x - 5) = 5:7

=>\frac{3x-5}{4x-5}=\frac{5}{7}\\=>21x-35=20x-25\\=>21x-20x=35-25\\=>x=10

∴ Present age of the two brothers are (3×10) = 30 years and (4×10) = 40 years.
