5. The sides of an equilateral triangle are
(6x + 3y) cm, (8x + 9y – 5) cm and (10x + 12y -
8) respectively. Find the length of each side.
[Hint. Take 6x + 3y = 8x + 9y - 5 and
8x +9y - 5 = 10x + 12y - 8 as two equations.)

Answer:let a=b=c are the sides of triangle

(6x+3y)=(8x+9y-5)

2x+6y=5 first equation

6x+3y=10x+12y-8

4x+8y=8 second equation

multiplying equation first with -2 and then add with equation second

We get -4y=-2

so,y=1/2

now putting the value of y in equation second

we get 4x+4=8

4x=4

X=1

6×1+3×1/2=15/2

so, each side of the triangle is 15/2 cm
