Question: The sum of two rational numbers is -16. If one of the number is -4. Find the other number?

→Answer:

  • let the 2 numbers be x and y
  • according to the question:
  • x+y = -16

→Where:

  • x = -4

→To find:

  • y = ?

→Solution:

  • x+y = -16
  • -4+y = -16
  • y = -16+4
  • y = -12

→Verify:

  • x+y = -16
  • -4+-12 = -16
  • -16 = -16
  • ∴L.H.S=R.H.S
  • The other number is -12
