Leveling of the soil

The ploughed field may have big-big clumps of soil. They are called crumbs.

It is necessary to break these soil crumbs. This breaking down of soil crumbs is known as Leveling. Leveling is done by a leveler.

Leveling of the soil is beneficial for sowing and also for irrigation.

Leveling helps in the uniform distribution of water to the fields.

It also prevents the top most soil or fertile soil from being carried away by very strong winds or washed away by the water during floods etc.
