Let present age of Jacob=X
present age of his son=Y
5 years ago,
Age of Jacob=X-5
Age of his son=Y-5
Given,
Jacob's age=7(his son's age)
X-5=7(Y-5)
X-5=7Y-35
X=7Y-35+5=7Y-30
X=7Y-30......(i)
5 years later,
Jacob's age=X+5
His son's age=Y+5
Given,
Jacob's age=3(His son's age)
X+5=3(Y+5)
Substituting (i) in above statement
7Y-30+5=3Y+15
7Y-3Y=30+15-5
4Y=40
Y=10
Substituting above in (i)
X=7Y-30=7(10)-30
X=70-30=40
Therefore, present ages of Jacob and his son are as follows:
Jacob's age=X=40
His son's age=Y=10
✌️ hope it helps✌️❤️
