Let the present father's age be f and son's age be s.

5 years ago,

30 = f-5 + s-5

f+s = 40....(1)

f = 40 - s......(2)

5 years hence,

f+5 = 5 + 2(s+5)

f = 2s + 10......(3)

Equating eq. (3) and (2)

2s+10=40-s

3s=30

s=10 years

f=40-s=30 years

Son's age is 10 years and father's age is 30 years
