The final temperature of the mix will be equal to 0°C.

When 50 gram ice at 0°C is mixed with 50 gram of water at 60°C then the water will loose heat . Whereas the ice will melt and gain heat . The mixture will finally reach an equilibrium temperature .

Mi - mass of ice = 50 gm

Mw - mass of water = 50 gm

L - latent heat of ice = 80 cal/gm

S - specific heat of ice = 1 cal/gm

For the mixture , Heat gained = Heat lost

50 × 80 > 60 × 50.

The value of heat gained by ice is greater , so some of the ice will not melt . Therefore the final temperature of the mixture is 0°C.

So mL=50×80=4000

Heat gained by ice =Heat lost by water

4000+50(1)(t-0)=50(1)(60-t)

50(80+t)=50(60-t)

80+t=60-t

20=2t
