Hola!

The two properties of carbon that make it differemt from other elements are -

  • Carbon has the unique property to form bonds with other atoms of carbon, giving rise to largd molecules. This property is called catenation. These compounds may have long chains of carbon, branched chains or ring arranged carbons. Though Silicon also form such bonds but those bonds aren't stable and it can form bonds upto 8 atoms only.

  • Since Carbon has valency 4. So it can neither gain 4 atoms or nor lose 4 atoms to complete its tetravalency so it shares its atom with the other element.
